The Cleanout Pipe Problem— Solved

During renovations, we sometimes run into things that are completely necessary… but not exactly pretty. One of the most common examples? Plumbing trap cleanouts.
They’re important to have, but let’s be honest— they’re not something anyone wants sitting in plain sight, especially in a newly renovated bathroom.
The Problem
Trap cleanouts are there for a reason— they provide access for future plumbing service if anything ever needs to be cleared or maintained. So no, they can’t just be removed… and they shouldn’t be permanently covered either.
The real issue is where they end up.
This is why planning ahead matters, because the last thing you want is to spend time (and money) installing beautiful feature tile… only to have a cleanout pipe sitting right in the middle of it like an afterthought. That one detail can take a bathroom from “wow” to “why is that there?” instantly.
Our Solution
For this project, we planned ahead and flipped the cleanout into a much less noticeable area so it could essentially disappear— without losing access in the future.
Now, instead of being visible in the washroom (or on a feature wall), it’s hidden away neatly in a closet, still accessible when needed, but no longer stealing the spotlight.
This is one of those renovation details most people wouldn’t think about until they see it. But it’s a perfect example of how small decisions and a bit of forethought can make a space feel cleaner, more intentional, and professionally finished.
Because yes… plumbing is important. But it doesn’t need to be part of the decor. 😅
